Watch TV together, wherever your friends are

Rooms let friends watch the same live channel, film or episode, each on their own screen and from their own playlist. It is the way to watch TV together remotely: one code, up to eight screens, and every screen that syncs on the same moment.

Watch together is in the latest ZiroTV app. Update and start a room. Friends and display names come with it. Your name can also be set at app.zirotv.com.

How can you watch TV together remotely?

Start a room from the player and share its code. Friends who join watch the same channel, film or episode on their own screens, wherever they are, and the room brings every screen that syncs to the same moment. A room holds up to eight screens.

  1. Start a room.

Open the channel, film or episode, and choose Start a room in the player.

  2. Bring your friends in.

Share the room’s six-character code, or let a friend join from your name in their friends list.

  3. Watch the same moment.

Each screen opens the same title from its own playlist, and the room brings the screens that sync together.

Each of you watches from your own playlist.

Nobody hands over a login. ZiroTV finds the room’s channel, film or episode in each friend’s own playlists.

Every friend plays it from their own provider, with their own Xtream Codes login or M3U link. Nobody’s playlist or login is shared or shown to the room. When a friend’s playlists do not have the title, the app says so.

Live TV, brought onto the same moment.

The same channel reaches each provider up to about half a minute apart. The room evens that out.

It compares the sound each player plays and holds the screens that are ahead until all of them play the same moment, within about two seconds of each other. That usually takes a minute or two. A screen that slips is brought back. If one cannot be synced, it says Couldn’t sync, and you can try again or keep watching without syncing.

Films and episodes, one shared play button.

Anyone in the room can play, pause, seek or move on, and everyone follows in their own copy.

One playhead.

Play, pause and seek on any screen in the room, and every screen follows, on the TV edition and the phone edition alike.

On to the next episode.

When an episode ends, the room moves on to the next one together.

Copies matched by sound.

Copies of a different length are matched by their sound. A copy at another speed lands on the right scene at every play, pause and seek, then drifts, and the screen says Your copy runs at another speed.

Which screens sync.

Syncing by sound needs a player whose sound the app can follow.

  • Windows and Linux: live channels and films sync by their sound
  • Phone edition on Android phones, coming to Google Play: live channels and films sync by their sound
  • Phone edition on iPhone and iPad: to follow
  • TV edition: you start or join a room and watch along. Live channels are not synced there, and films follow the room by position

Friends: add them by email or with a code.

Friends, what they see of you and blocking are in the app together with rooms. Your display name can also be set at app.zirotv.com, and you can share a playlist with a friend there too.

Add a friend
Send a request to their email address, or type the code their screen shows.
Your name
Friends see the display name you choose. Without one, they see your email address.
Watch along
Friends see when you are online and what you watch, and can ask to watch along. You answer Accept or Not now.
Your call
One switch, Show friends what I’m watching, hides all of it. Kids profiles have no friends, and you can block an account.

What watch together does not do.

Rooms bring screens together. Everything else is still every ZiroTV feature you know.

  • It supplies no channels, films or episodes. Each friend needs the title in their own playlist
  • A copy that runs at another speed, or a different cut, cannot be kept in sync
  • It does not record or download anything
  • Every friend needs ZiroTV and an internet connection

Watch together questions.

How many people can be in one room?

Up to eight screens. Anyone with the room’s code can join, and friends can join from your name.

Does the app listen through my microphone?

No. Where a room syncs by sound, the app makes a fingerprint of the sound its own player plays and sends that, never the sound itself and nothing from a microphone. The privacy policy explains how we handle friends and rooms.

When can I use it?

Watch together is in the latest ZiroTV app. Update and start a room. Friends and display names come with it. You can also set your name at app.zirotv.com.
